Movember a proud partner of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand. another month pastWow, that one went fast. I guess that's what happens when you're working a proper job. Is that a good thing or not? Who knows. One thing is for sure though, writing about the daily routine isn't the easiest thing in the world. On a more practical note, the 's' key on the laptop I've been given by work has given up. entance tart looking like thi. And that's no use to anyone... All this sounds remarkably like excuses, which is probably true. I've just reread what I wrote last time around. I finished with "Given that I should now have a bit more access to technology, I should be able to get on with emailing everyone properly soon." Hmm, so much for that plan. Good news though that finally people have discovered the marvel of Facebook, which is definitely making life easier for keeping in contact. And that can only be a good thing. It is now June, which means it's officially winter. Quite a strange concept to get your head around that one, but as it is, the 'lows' of 10 degrees and scattered showers probably aren't too different from England this time of year. I hear that things are looking a bit more extreme down south, with snow in Queenstown and on the ski fields on the North Island this week. Just in time, as the season is due to start in two weeks time, and was looking pretty sparse. Hopefully be able to get down there for a weekend soon and try it out for myself. Big news for the month is that once again I will be moving house. Having just moved in to here, the landlord decided to sell up, and so we've had to find somewhere else. Thankfully it wasn't too difficult and we've found a really nice new apartment in a complex just down the road. It's very exciting, and really can't wait - the villa is very pretty, but it is getting quite cold now winter is coming, being that it is made from wood, has no central heating, single glazed windows and I've just noticed you can see the ground through the gaps in the floor boards! Now I'm starting to get a bit settled and into a routine, once again have to make the most of the weekends. Having transport (albeit a fairly dodgy, 1995, automatic Nissan Almera) is proving very handy and have managed to get out of the city to some of the rugged coastline around Auckland. Nothing quite like a brisk walk along a volcanic beach with the wind howling and heavy seas to blow away all the cobwebs. Having opportunities like that just 30minutes drive away from the city is a great benefit, and one of the many things which makes this such a great place to live. Rugby fever is starting to take hold, with the countdown to the world cup now under 100 days. Everywhere you look there's ads for the All Blacks (I BELIEVE), and so keeping in spirit with it, I'm trying my best to get familiar with the game. This weekend I will have watched three games of various abilities; an amateur match at a club where one of my friends was playing, the All Blacks vs France at the pub last night and this afternoon we're off to the NRL Warriors vs Storm. Hopefully come September I should actually have a fair understanding of the rules. Hopefully. And if the All Blacks don't win the World Cup, there's always the ensuing recession to look forward to. jobs are like busesIt has been demanded that I update my blog given that it's been almost a month. Fair point, so I will. Truth be told, it has not been the most eventful of months, being that the majority has been taken up with job hunting and sitting around waiting to hear back from people. Amazing. Also, I didn't want to write too much when things were all still up in the air and not set in stone. Thankfully though, after four weeks, I've finally managed to get a job offer. Rather amusingly, two in fact. Just like the bloody buses. Fortunately, the decision between them was pretty easy, and after a four month break, I'm back to work tomorrow. Scary. For those who are interested, I will be working for a company called gen-i, the leading IT outsourcing company in New Zealand. As a Service Engineer I will be going around to various clients and performing operations on site. All sounds pretty exciting, and really looking forward to getting started. It hasn't all been sitting, wishing, waiting though. Been living out of a hostel in downtown Auckland, which has been quite an experience in itself. As a 'long-termer', have managed to meet loads of cool travellers, as well as made some really good friends with others who are working in the city and staying around for longer. Helped a couple of girls find some clothes and they helped me in return. I now have a dashing new shirt and tie. I do need some sleep though. Copulating couples keeping me up all night. Yes, life in a travelling world is never dull. Sharing a room with 7 other people can wear a little thin though, and as fun as it has been, now I'm a serious worker (ha ha) I am definately looking forward to moving out and getting a proper place. It's all new and exciting stuff. Hopefully that gets you all upto date a bit with where I'm at. Given that I should now have a bit more access to technology, I should be able to get on with emailing everyone properly soon. Apologies for not having done so for a while, but I will get around to it I promise. Until then, I'm off to work. Hi ho, hi ho... happy birthday to meYes, another year past. I am now 27. And this year, the privilege of celebrating it 11 hours before everyone else. Woo! A time for profound revelations and words of wisdom? Possibly, although I think I shall refrain - I can't really think of anything fitting at this precise moment. It's probably for the best. Anyways, I shall leave it there and off to bed. I may have to jump off a building in the morning... i'm starting to get bored of my iPodOr more correctly, the music on it. I guess 2Gb wasn't big enough after all. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot I can do about it here, being as I am without computer or MP3 collection. That laptop purchase looks more and more inevitable everyday. Until then it's back to Jack for the hundredth time. Can you have too much of a good thing? In more relevant news, I've finally left Queenstown, and after 4 rather rainy days on a bus, am back in Auckland city. Yes, firstly it would appear that autumn has very much arrived, seemingly overnight with storms, rain and the first snow of the year. What's more, the clocks have also just gone back meaning it is now dark by 7pm. Very autumnal. Secondly, I guess I have now officially crossed the line between 'traveller' and just 'unemployed'. How depressing. The job search is on in earnest though, and initially seems to be a bit of a waiting game as I wait for the plethora of agencies I have sent cvs to to get back to me. Oh the fun! What it is to be back in the real world. Still, looks promising so just have to see what turns up. Fingers crossed. Other than that, there's very little else to report. Back to reality. This is what it's all about though. Make or break time. After all, have to pay for that laptop somehow... |
